Please join Women In Environment for the first event in the 2019 Krista Koehl Professional Development Series, a panel discussion on Compassion in the Workplace: When, Where, and How
When: Thursday, April 25, 2019
from 4 PM to 6 PM
Where: Schwabe Williamson & Wyatt, 1211 SW 5th Avenue, Suite 1900, Portland, OR 97204
WIE Portland Chapter's Professional Development Committee invites you to join us for cocktails, snacks, and an intriguing panel discussion about compassion in the workplace. One definition explains compassion in the following terms: “Compassion motivates people to go out of their way to help physical, spiritual, or emotional hurts or pains of another.” Our panel of professional women will explore the various ways in which women have to balance the idea of compassion - towards peers, subordinates, our families, and the environment at large - with other professional considerations. We will dive into the challenges that women face in the workplace as a result of the perceived dichotomy of strength and leadership, on the one hand, and traditionally feminine norms of kindness, empathy, and compassion on the other. We’ll also discuss the dynamic that arises when our internal feelings of compassion come into conflict with our professional obligations and share methods for addressing that tension.
