Join WIE in supporting a fabulous local organization, Girls on the Run Portland Metro. Volunteer opportunities are now available for the Spring 2012 season.
Girls on the Run is a life-changing, character development program for 3rd – 5th grade girls in the Portland Metro area. Girls on the Run uses exercise, positive reinforcement, and encouraging role models to provide girls with the confidence they need in those critical pre-teen years. Girls on the Run offers a 12-week program to help girls train for a community 5K run/walk. In addition to training, during the season the girls work together towards enhancing their concepts of group leadership by completing a service project of the groups choosing.
Girls on the Run is currently accepting applications for coaches for the 2012 season. Short on time? You can still participate by signing up to be a Running Buddy for the end-of-the-season community 5K. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, please see Girls on the Run’s volunteer page.
On September 17, 2011, Women in Environment volunteered at the SOLV Beach and Riverside Cleanup. Women in Environment volunteers helped remove invasive plants at a streamside site at Forest Heights in Portland.
