WIE Bay Area: Chocolate Tasting and Networking Event

Join the WIE Bay Area chapter for a guided chocolate tasting with Woodblock Chocolate from the comfort of your home.

The WIE Bay Area chapter is excited to host a virtual chocolate tasting and networking event. We are collaborating with Woodblock Chocolate, a family run, bean-to-bar chocolate manufactory in Portland, Oregon. Capacity for this virtual event is limited, so please sign up soon. This event will include a virtual tour of the manufactory, chocolate tasting guided by Charley and Jessica Wheelock (founders of Woodblock Chocolate), and wrap up with a breakout/mini-networking session. We will need your mailing address and a subsidized fee of $15/person (check out when you complete your registration). A box of 10- assorted chocolate bars (retailing at $40), a sack of roasted cocoa beans, and tasting notes will be shipped to you for the event (please store in cool dry place and try not to consume before the event).

Portland’s own Woodblock Chocolate is the fortunate result of years of rigorous artistic endeavors by wife and husband team Jessica and Charley Wheelock. They met doing antique restoration and both had an affinity for the intriguing potential of a raw material: wood (that’s where the Woodblock comes from). Single source chocolate was intriguing too. The more they learned about chocolate, the more they understood how everything they had done led to this. Was it a calling? For Jessica and Charley, making chocolate from the bean was more like realizing a dream that they didn’t even know we had!

Jessica and Charley like to think every part of their humble and joyful experience comes through in their chocolate. They visited farms from Hawaii to Peru, researched and roasted, delved into the history and philosophy of cacao, made mistakes and happy accidents, grew, developed, collaborated and now have what they believe is delicious heartfelt chocolate worthy of their journey, made from two ingredients: cacao and pure cane sugar. Jessica and Charley are genuinely proud to share what they have learned with you.

A special thank you to our featured sponsors for this event: Geosyntec, Allen Matkins, Jacobs, Stantec
